Frequently Asked Questions

  • Absolutely not! I provide on-water instruction. If you prefer to use conventional, light tackle, I can provide that, too. Reach out if you’re interesting in additional, off-water casting lessons.

  • You’ll need a Minnesota Fishing License (for those 16 years of age and older), appropriate footwear (sandals, Crocs, etc.—there are wade fishing opportunities but you can stay in the drift boat if you prefer), sunscreen, bug spray, polarized sunglasses, hat, appropriate clothing (we’ll fish through rain), phone/camera. Everything else is provided by your guide. While I provide all angling gear, you’re welcome to bring your own rod if you’d like to.

  • I’ll send you an invoice to put down a deposit for your trip—this is payable online. Upon the completion of your trip you can pay me the remaining balance via cash, check, Venmo, or by online invoice. Gratuities for fly fishing guides are customary, and very much appreciated.

  • As river conditions change, and smallmouth bass tend to move around seasonally, I’ll let you know the exact river put-in a day or two before your fishing trip. I’ll send you a Maps pin and we’ll meet there.

  • To protect the ongoing vitality of a thriving fishery, I practice catch and release fishing.

  • For sure! I love teaching kids about the river and fly fishing.
